I grow nine varieties of honeysuckle, two old shrubs of unknown varieties, small-fruited, candidates for raskorchevku. But 7 large-fruited Bakchar varieties are good. These are Bakcharskaya Jubilee, Bakcharsky Giant, Daughter of the Giant, Siberian, Yugan, Silginka and Delight. My climate in the lower Volga region is very hot, last summer it was up to +47 in the shade, all the bushes withstood the heat, but the vegetation stopped. The berry ripens early, before the early strawberries, the taste for the earliest berries is not bad. It is quite easy to tolerate strong heat and prolonged lack of rain.

Experts of the State Commission of Ukraine for Testing and Protecting Plant Varieties recommend two varieties of honeysuckle for planting in the gardens of Poltava, Sumy and Kharkiv regions:

  • Bogdana Fruitful, unwilling to shatter variety. The fruits ripen in the last decade of May and have a dessert sweet taste,
  • Violet. The average yield is slightly less than 2 kg per plant. The flesh of the fruit is sweet and sour with a delicate aroma. In Ukraine, the berries ripen in early June. A significant disadvantage of this variety is the tendency to fall, due to which you can lose up to 40% of the crop.

To minimize the adverse effects of hot climates, experts recommend regularly watering honeysuckle bushes. Excellent results are obtained by planting this crop near the shores of natural and artificial reservoirs.

Honeysuckle grows in the south. It suffers from thaws in winter and hot weather in summer. Therefore, the harvest even on 10-year-old bushes is small.
