Cutting the fruit for drying is necessary along with sepals. Do not tighten with the processing of torn berries - it must be carried out immediately after harvesting, otherwise the valuable substances contained in the dog rose will be destroyed. Please note that the fruits are not washed before drying.
The best option is to dry the wild rose naturally. However, this does not mean that the berries should be laid out in the sun! On the contrary, they are dried in rooms with good ventilation, outside the zone of access of sunlight. The fact is that vitamin C categorically does not like intense ultraviolet radiation and is simply destroyed in the sun.
Another option is to use the oven. In this case, it should be remembered that the maximum temperature for drying hips should be no higher than 90 ° C. Fruits should be spread evenly on a baking sheet with a thin layer and kept in the oven for a quarter of an hour. After that, the temperature is reduced to 50-60 degrees and the berries are languishing for seven or eight hours. Periodically they should be shaken and stirred. Please note that the oven door must always remain ajar - this is necessary so that the moisture evaporates. Finished fruits become intense dark yellow or reddish-brown hue.
Some use for drying rose hips microwave. This should not be done - the risk is high that the berries will burn inside, although they will look perfect on the outside.
After drying is complete, re-select the dogrose so that it “breathes out”. Soak the berries for two or three days at normal room temperature. Only after that they should be removed for storage.
Dried rosehip storage methods
In qualitatively dried berries useful properties are preserved for two to three years, but only if properly stored.
First of all, forget about plastic bags once and for all. This material completely blocks the access of air, as a result of which the berries begin to “suffocate”, and mold appears on their surface.
Cardboard or paper bags are the ideal packaging for rose hips. Their bottom should be prewrapped with paraffin paper.

Also, glass jars are suitable for storage, but under one condition: they should not be hermetically closed. Use plastic covers in which you first need to pierce the holes with a red-hot awl. If there are no covers on hand, cover the containers with gauze folded in three layers.
Regardless of which container you choose to store dried fruit, place it in a dark place with good ventilation. Please note that wild rose has a high susceptibility to foreign odors and easily absorbs them. Therefore, containers with dried berries should not be placed near products with intense flavors.
How long to keep the dried rosehip infusion
It is no secret that many people prefer to cook a large amount of rosehip infusion at once, so as not to bother repeating the brewing procedure. This is not a good practice, because even in the fridge, a drink made from dried wild rose fruits loses its healing properties. The maximum shelf life is 24 hours.
Infusion of dried rosehip - indications for use
