For several years now I have planted a pumpkin in my garden. I tried many varieties. Among them were even gymnosperms and ornamental, but in the end I gave my heart to nutmeg.
The most interesting thing is that when I opened the bag of seeds, at first I thought that I was deceived, there were some strange, very small seeds. Well, okay, I think, I still risk it. The instructions said that the nutmeg is a tropical plant that is thermophilic, so I hardened it to improve the cold resistance of the planting material. Two days kept the seeds in the refrigerator, and then germinated for three more days in a damp napkin.
At the same time preparing the soil for the seedlings: mixed in equal parts of the sod land, peat and humus, added a little sand and ash. In this mixture and planted seeds spiked. I grew a pumpkin in a room, but as soon as the first shoots appeared, I immediately moved the pots to the loggia, where the temperature constantly holds around 15 °. Seedlings watered moderately (but did not allow the soil to dry out) and once a week fed with complex fertilizer.
After appearing three leaflets on sprouts, I transplanted them into previously prepared garden beds under the film, at a distance of 0.5 m from each other (as soon as the return frosts had passed, the shelter was immediately removed). Of course, I will plant it in the new season, but I will do it as early as possible, so that the fruits will have time to ripen even in the garden beds.
I have grown amazing pumpkin (sorry, the name of the variety I do not remember) about 50 cm in diameter. Outside, it is a beautiful red color, inside - hollow, with yellow with a greenish tint walls 5-10 cm thick.
