Characteristics of a variety
Table grade "Ruslan" with proper care gives high yields. Grapes are distinguished by early ripening. In late July - early August, the first ripe clusters are already removed - the ripening period is not more than 115 days. The rich taste of berries has a light plum flavor. Berries are often boiled with compotes and jams, and they are used extensively in winemaking.
A brief description of the Ruslan grape variety is as follows: a powerful bush with bright green, large leaves. On long shoots ripen several bunches at once. The variety has a high aging rate of more than 70%. Brushes grow and have time to ripen not only on the shoots, but also on stepchildren.
Clusters form large - sometimes the weight reaches one kilogram. The berry is oval, dark blue, on the branch is located loosely. Berries are large, small practically does not happen. Each fruit has dense juicy filling, a thin peel is covered with a wax raid. The sugar content of the variety is 18%, the acidity is up to 7g / l.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Grape lovers mainly distinguish the advantages of a variety that has gained mass popularity not only among gardeners, but also for ordinary consumers:
- Large, tasty berries with a thin peel and excellent taste.
- Abundant harvest. After ripening, the clusters can hang on the shoot for some time, while maintaining the taste and appearance. During transportation and storage of grapes for a long time maintains a good presentation.
- The farm uses not only berries, but also leaves. They are added to the banks during preservation or they are wrapped in various fillings.
- Grapes "Ruslan" contains many useful substances. Therefore, its use is not only tasty, but also useful, as it helps the body in accelerating metabolism, with kidney disease, joint inflammation, anemia.
What kind is it?
Ruslan is a hybrid table subspecies of blue grapes with early ripening. Harvest can be removed in early August. It can persist on the bushes for a long time, but high sugar cannot be obtained from it.
It is also used in bouquets of red wine, and in jam, liqueurs, jams, but mainly fresh because of the rich fruit flavor with distinct plum notes. Berries do not crack, do not rot. Normally withstand transportation and storage, subject to conditions.
Grapes Ruslan: description of the variety
The bush is very tall and strong. The cluster is large, weighing up to a kilogram, moderately dense, cone-shaped. Not prone to pea. The berries are large, oval, weighing 10-15 g, dark blue with a white-moon plaque.
The flesh is juicy, dense, with 1-2 palpable high-grade seeds inside. The skin is dense, medium thickness, eaten.
The flower is a hermaphrodite. A ripe chocolate-colored shoot, sturdy, covered with dark red knots. The fruit stalk is brownish-green, relatively long. The leaf is large, rounded, bright green, slightly cut.
Photos of grapes Ruslan:
Ruslan is a young subspecies obtained from parent cultures of Kuban and Zaporozhye Gift. Currently distributed in the southern regions of the former Soviet Union is being tested in Belarus, but breeders claim that he will easily be able to take root in the middle lane, right up to the Urals and Siberia.
Diseases and pests
Ruslan is a real hero. He was not afraid of wasps or bacteria. Birds, perhaps, will be disturbed. Against them, it is enough to fence the vineyard into a solid, inflexible mesh with small cells.
Rope type of fishing, it is better not to use if you do not want to receive a regular "harvest" in the form of heart-rending screaming, agonizing and dead birds. It is also better not to rely on scarecrows and frightening poster and balls with painted big-eyed faces of peregrine falcons and kites.
Phylloxera is a very dangerous enemy grapes in all areas where it grows. It is very difficult to fight it, especially since the parasite takes nothing but volatile carbon disulfide.
Shrubs sprayed with a solution in the proportion of 300-400 cubic centimeters per square meter. It also harms the vine itself, but it is better to sacrifice the diseased part than the whole vineyard - the aphid itself will not lag behind. However, with a dose of 80 “cubes” recommended by many farmers, the bush has every chance to survive.
Another attack to fear is bacterial cancer. It occurs on damaged areas. Because before buying it is necessary to carefully inspect the cuttings for wounds and scratches. Planting grapes, seedlings are better not to disturb once again and handle them carefully - a tumor can develop from any damage. The diseased bush is grubbed and burned.
As for such common grape diseases as anthracnose, bacteriosis, chlorosis, rubella, some preventive measures may not be harmful.
Grapes Ruslan - a real gift to residents of the middle lane, especially for beginners and those who do not want to spend a lot of effort on the garden. He is very unpretentious, not afraid of parasites, or even wasps, which greatly simplifies the task for those who decided to get this miracle on their site.
Tastes and benefits
Due to the thin skin and a small number of seeds, the berries have no bitter taste. Dense and juicy pulp gives the grapes a rich taste, reminiscent of ripe plums.
The grade "Ruslan" is sated with the mass of useful substances, and in particular vitamins (C, B, K, P). In addition, it is characterized by a high content of minerals and macronutrients: magnesium, zinc, manganese, chromium, cobalt. In small quantities contains plant hormones, protein and organic acids.
Thanks to its beneficial substances, it is used to treat and prevent anemia, diseases of the urinary system. Regular consumption of grapes "Ruslan" improves the work of the gastrointestinal tract, accelerates metabolic processes.
The relative disadvantages include the presence of pits, which affects the taste. Despite the high frost resistance, it is poorly tolerated by moisture, especially during the ripening period, which causes cracking of the berries. Due to its taste characteristics, it attracts birds, which is why it is necessary to take measures to scare them away.
How to grow
The hybrid variety is relatively unpretentious to the environment, so it is great for those who are just starting to grow grapes. In the process of leaving you do not need to take special measures for its protection and processing. In addition, the bushes take root in almost any soil.
Grapes are a heat-loving plant, and therefore should be planted in a sunny open area of soil on the southern side of the site.
The most favorable time for landing is the beginning of May. However, it is possible to make a landing in the autumn period: from mid-October until the beginning of frosts. For the future bush pre-prepared pit size of 0.8 m 3 for black soil and 1 meter in depth for sandy soil. The bottom of the dug hole is laid with humus (15-20 cm), then some soil is poured in and left to sag for 14-20 days.
If you purchased a sapling in advance, then you need to store it in a damp, damp room. Before the procedure, hold it a little in the water. After the time, you can start landing. Have the seedling gently straighten the roots and place it in a hole, sprinkle it with earth (do not bury the neck!). Together with him it is recommended to put a peg in the pit in order to immediately strengthen the plant.
If you plant a lot of bushes at once, make sure that the distance between the bushes is at least one and a half meters, and between the rows at least three.
After the seedling is buried, watering is performed (about 30 l of water), the top layer of soil is loosened. The next three irrigations are made at intervals of 8 days, and then the earth around the seedling is lined with mulch.
The following watering sessions are made immediately before flowering and during the appearance of the berries. If during the vegetative period the drought began - the bush is watered additionally. After each irrigation, the soil is lined with mulch on which sawdust and moss are laid out.
To improve the quality and volume of the crop, it is recommended to conduct regular fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers.
In order for the brushes of the grapes not to be overloaded and to give good fruits, the vine must be formed. From it it is necessary to cut 6 eyes, and on the whole bush the optimal number of shoots is 35. Vines are pruned regularly. It is also necessary for aesthetic reasons. Before the procedure, dried berries, leaves and branches are removed from the whole bush. Every year, 10 buds on each shoot must be removed from the bush.
Since the grapes "Ruslan" has a high frost resistance, cover it completely is not necessary. For the winter, only seedlings are sheltered.
Although this Ruslan grape is resistant to pests (mildew, oidium), once a year it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment. The procedure is carried out in the spring, as soon as it begins to warm.
It is important in case of what and in time to recognize the disease, until the parasites have spread to the entire bush. To do this, it is recommended to regularly examine the condition of the sheets - the first signs of infection - yellow and gray spots on the sheets.
Sort Ruslan I have two years. In the second year after planting, in 2011, left 12 bunches. Well, it is possible to call them clusters with a stretch, the weight of individual clusters reached 650 grams, I really hoped that the clusters would be much more, for the reason that they participated in the selection (Kuban x Present Zaporozhye). This parental couple participated in the selection of the Fourchette variety, as he had more than a kilogram at the first fruiting. The variety Ruslan is of early ripening, I have ripened by August 12, if with full load, you can add 5-7 days. The clusters, as mentioned above, are still medium in size, but the berries are ..., dark blue, with a strong pruine, plum-shaped, without a pea, the weight of the berries is about 18 grams. The taste is harmonious, with a weak plum flavor. A couple of bunches left on the bush after full ripening, no cracking of the berries was observed. As with the fourchette, the variety Ruslan has not a bad disease resistance, slightly lower than the Zaporizhia Gift. The variety is very tall, the vine matures well, I want to note the high rooting rate of cuttings. I think that it is too early to draw final conclusions about this variety, but I think that V. Zagorulko. smiled luck on breeding varieties with dark berries, luck, which is hard and painstaking work.
I personally like Ruslan very much, although it is not so widespread and it cannot be said that I have been tested for many years at many sites, but I would recommend it to everyone, including for growing in “cold” lands. The form impresses with its stability, the taste of it from Kuban is obvious, and maybe even surpasses it, although there is no nutmeg, but some interesting fruit notes are felt. We also ripen in the region of August 1–5. In 2013, the bush suffered during the winter (as well as many others), was restored, showed several clusters.
Today with great pleasure we tasted Signalka Ruslana. Everyone really liked the taste. Pulp berries hard, fleshy juicy, bites with a crunch, as many here write, the taste of something remotely plum and very pleasant. The bush was planted last year by a rooted cutting, this year there were three small signals. The size and shape of the berry is similar to the plum, put next to and can not be distinguished. In a bunch, for some reason, several berries were left uncolored and unripe. During heavy rains, several pieces cracked, wasps began to try, I had to shove them in bags. In the spring, I have a little chloro chloride bush, but after treatment with iron chelate I turned green. The power of growth is great, still throws inflorescences on stepchildren. While this form is very pleased.
Grapes Ruslan, like any variety, is not without flaws, but there are no ideal varieties. However, by the totality of properties, it is among the most worthy table grapes of early ripening grapes. It has not yet been fully studied, but reviews of winegrowers who planted and experienced Ruslan on their plots testify to the high interest in it of both amateurs and professionals.
Genetic superiority in everything
Author grades Zagorulko only about twenty, but each festoed and polished. Difficult selection work lasted more than 20 years. An enthusiastic winegrower would cast and cast aside until he found the only hybrid form that met all his requirements: both in self-pollination, and in form, and in terms of product and taste criteria. The priority indicators for his new products, he considered and considers the following:
- early ripeness and super early ripeness,
- large-fruited and large-scale
- seedlessness and self-pollination,
- disease resistance.
Ruslan - one of the many varieties of breeder Vitaly Zagorulko
It was precisely in this cohort with super- and super-qualities that one of its remarkable hybrid varieties, Ruslan, fell. He, along with other cultures, such as Moor, Libya, Bazhena, Lily of the Valley, Veles, Vodograi, Sofia repeatedly won or occupied honorary and prize places at international exhibitions organized by farms and agricultural academies of Ukraine from 2008 to 2011.
Early ripening grapes Ruslan allow to grow it in the southern strip and the chernozem belt of Russia
Three cultures became parents of Ruslana: Present to Zaporozhye, Kuban and Delight. Of course, these southern aborigines could not create a northern variety. But, nevertheless, the frost resistance of the new hybrid struck many experienced farmers. After all, Ruslan showed endurance up to -25 0 C. This meant that the novelty should have been extended to the northern part of Ukraine and even to the cooler latitudes of Russia. This winter hardiness and genetically established supreme security allowed Ruslan to appear even in the Moscow suburban gardens.
Description and characteristics of the variety Ruslan - table
And this is not all the amazing qualities of this grape variety. It is also worth mentioning the excellent immunity to mildew, the possibility of growing on small private and large farms, the growth of the vine in the open field and in the greenhouse.
As for the bunch and the fruit itself, superiority once again won. The table below clearly displays this.
Gardeners reviews about grapes Ruslan
I personally like Ruslan very much, although he is not so widespread and it cannot be said that he has been tested for many years in many areas. But I would recommend it to everyone, including for growing in cold lands. The hybrid form impresses with its stability, the taste of it from Kuban is obvious, and maybe even surpasses it, although there is no nutmeg, but some interesting fruit notes are felt. We also ripen in the region of August 1–5. In 2013, the bush suffered during the winter, as well as many others. Recovered, showed a few bunches.
My Ruslan is still young. Planted last year by cutting for permanent residence. Developed rather weakly. In the fall, it was cut back to reverse the shape of the fan. This year 5 powerful shoots are developed, on one small cluster. Only here the stepchildren give out a lot, and, interestingly, even in the first-order steps, small inflorescences form.
Gardeners with experience celebrate easy cracking of Ruslan grapes in rainy years
There is also a lack of Ruslana ... Personally, I really love him wasps. Especially after cracking. Although the taste, the size of the berries and clusters, the ripening period and all the other parameters suit me. I do not know who has it, but my bush has a growing power not so strong as, for example, Talisman. But above average.
Despite its soil pickiness, the culture prefers fertilized soil composition with the addition of humus and peat. It is necessary to arrange the drainage from the rubble in the lower layer of the landing pit, otherwise re-wetting will create additional problems in the form of the development of fungus and mold on the leaves and fruits, or in the form of watery, bursting berries.
Cuttings must be rooted in nutrient water solution before planting into the ground.
The wells for rooted cuttings of Ruslan are prepared in advance, 15 days before the planting procedure. This is required to ensure that the soil is settled and partially compacted. The holes should be deep and spacious, since not only the elevated, but also the underground part of the variety grows. After laying the seedlings in the fertilized pits, they are lightly added dropwise, watered with settled warm water and then dropped again. This method of double dripping will better retain moisture at the root and will not allow the crust to form on the surface of the earth.
Под виноград делают просторные лунки глубиной и шириной до 80 см
Рекомендованное расстояние между саженцами — не менее 1,5 метров, а между рядами при промышленном разведении — не менее 3 метров. By the middle of the season, the vine will grow in such a way that there will be no empty space, but there will be sufficient corridors to ventilate the crop and to pass between them during fruit harvesting. The distance will also serve as an insulating measure in case of infection of a neighboring vine with any unpleasant illness.
The distance between seedlings should be at least 1.5 meters, so that after growth they do not overshadow each other.
Planting Ruslana cuttings is most effective in the spring, although the cuttings themselves are harvested since autumn. Reproduction by layering is better in summer and autumn.
Caring for grapes is no more difficult than garden turnips. It requires regular watering, loosening, removal of weeds and top dressing, without which the ovary will be weak and the yield will be lower than the limit stated for the variety.
Three mineral supplements per season may well be enough if:
- the vine is young and does not suffer from diseases
- planting the vine in its time was carried out in fertilized soil,
- the vine has endured the winter well and without loss.
The first watering with the addition of nitrogen and potassium is carried out in the spring after the sanitary pruning.
Mineral feeding - the most important part of the comprehensive care of grapes
The second and third dressing is carried out in the period of budding and ripening of fruits. This can be either root or foliar spraying of foliage with potassium phosphate mixtures or industrial complex fertilizers. It is important to remember that in order to avoid poisoning with residues of agricultural mixtures on fruits, spraying should be applied no less than two weeks before the berries are picked.
Dangerous for grapes diseases and pests
The variety is declared as highly resistant to fungal diseases of mildew and powdery mildew, manifested in the form of oily brown-yellow spots on the foliage, fungal hairs on the leaves and fruits, the smell of rotting fish. Diseases are very dangerous for grapes - with a bad development of events you can lose from 50 to 90% of the crop. At the same time the infection quickly moves from one vine to another. The plant begins to quickly turn yellow, the berries dry and fall.
Pubescence on the leaves and fruits - one of the signs of mildew
Preventive control of fungal diseases
Prevention against mildew - the most important part of the care of grapes of any variety, no matter how high resistance to the disease would not be declared. The main rules of this preventive work are the following points:
- Do not over-wet the soil. Drainage, loosening, airing will help to avoid it. These are friends of grapes.
- Mulch the soil at the roots of the vine with straw, shavings, peat, sawdust. This will save the plant from lack of moisture and cool air.
- Do not allow overcooling of planting material. Cuttings are planted in open ground only after the threat of recurrent frosts has completely passed, and the soil warms up to + 6 + 8 0 C. At night in a cool climate, the young seedling should be covered with film.
- Remove the stepchildren in a timely manner, and new shoots must be tied to the supports so that the clusters do not lie on the ground during maturation.
- To conduct twice-a-season preventive treatment with well-proven drugs of copper, sulfur, iron, such as: Bordeaux mixture, colloidal sulfur, Oxy, copper and iron sulphate.
- When the first signs of the disease appear, immediately treat the plants with fungicidal preparations. Processing should be carried out clearly according to the schedule recommended by the manufacturers. Quality brands for grapes are Quadrice, Cabrio Top, Champion, Ridomil Gold, Abiga Pik.
It must be remembered that a lot of fungicide drugs. In order not to give rise to the addiction of grapes to any one of their kind, it is desirable alternation from season to season, or from top dressing to top dressing.
The most benign methods of protection against fungal diseases include spraying infusions of strongly aromatic or burning herbs: nettle, chamomile, pepper, garlic, onion, and others. A good prophylactic is also wood ash, periodically added under the bushes.
Before laying the cutting in the hole, it must be examined for the presence of parasites on it. One of the most dangerous for grapes is phylloxera, or grape aphid. The little yellow-green pest eats both leaves, shoots, and roots. During the winter cold, its larvae successfully settle on the roots, piercing them with their proboscis and thus violating their integrity. When the earth warms up, the parasites creep out to the surface, where they begin their destructive cycle.
Phylloxera larvae attach themselves not only on the leaves, but also on the roots
The damage of the stalk taken from such an affected plant can be discerned with the naked eye. It will be unnatural thickenings or bumps. Infected material should be immediately sent to the fire, and at the same time the sick vine from which the cutting was prepared. Land from the destroyed zone will also have to be treated with pesticides, and for a dozen years to avoid planting grapes on it.
But what if a phylloxera is discovered on a plantation at the height of the season? Only one way out - to carry out multiple processing of grapes with dichloroethane. But due to the fact that the chemical is a very toxic poison, 20 ml of which is enough to cause fatal poisoning, the processing of grape fields with dichloroethane should be carried out only by a certified team of agricultural or chemical specialists.
In small private vineyards you can apply such well-known pesticides as Aktellik, Kinmiks, Fozalon, Fufanon.
Autumn pruning varieties Ruslan
Pruning grapes is a kind of ritual that is required to be held every fall, regardless of the age of the vine. Over the summer, the vine grows and thickens so that it is absolutely impossible to let it go in the winter in this form. Uncircled vine perezimuet bad, and the next year, if not die, will give so slow development that the fruit can not wait. And the benefits of pruning are huge.
- First, it will make the bush compact and convenient for wintering,
- Secondly, it will update the vine, creating the potential for growth in the coming year,
- Thirdly, it will help prepare high-quality cuttings for reproduction next spring.
Autumn pruning is carried out to form a bush and increase yields.
Before the main pruning conduct inspection of the bush, identifying dried shoots and removing the remaining foliage. The formation of the vines are already from the first year of life. All overgrown shoots for the season are removed, except for two stem ones, on which three buds are left. The next year, reserve 3-4 eyes on the shoots.
In the third year they form two sleeves, which in the next season will go on both sides of the central trunk. To do this, regrowths are shortened to 50 cm with the number of eyes no more than 4. All lower shoots are removed. In the fourth year, the sleeves are maintained in this status, but all annual shoots on their lower part are cut off. All work is done with a garden pruner and delimber.
A fully formed shrub is obtained by the fourth year of the life of the vine.
Vine shelter for the winter is made according to the rules of the climatic zone in which grapes are grown. If shelter is not required, then the twigs are pinned neatly to the support.
Grapes Ruslan is a real highlight in the garden in the literal and figurative sense. Unpretentious, with excellent accuracy, resistance to diseases and early ripening, it can become the "nail of the program" on the site, without bringing with it much trouble to the owners. It happens that sugar turnips are harder to grow and preserve than Ruslan grapes, especially if that turnip is genetically huge.
