Instructions for use Virosalma for pigeons

Virosalm is one of the most common means used by golubovodami to maintain the immunity of birds. The vaccine contains a billion of Salmonella typhimurium microorganisms. But the main effect is achieved due to the presence of extraembryonic fluid of chicken embryos that were infected with Newcastle virus. Virosalm is produced as a yellowish suspension with sediment.

Virosalm is intended for prophylaxis, but not for treatment. The vaccine forms an immune response in pigeons to diseases such as salmonellosis and Newcastle disease two weeks after the second injection. Immunity is persistent and lasts for eleven months.

Such birds need preparation:

  • young animals over 20 days old
  • pigeons in the period of universal quarantine,
  • parent birds for the month of the start of egg-laying (the tool will help strengthen the immunity of chicks before birth),
  • pigeons, which will soon be put up for a contest, transported, sold, or simply will be in contact with other birds.

How to apply

Introduce virosalm must be intramuscularly in the pectoral muscle. Reception should be double with an interval from 28 to 30 days. The dosage depends on the weight of the birds:

  • less than 4 kg - 0.5 milliliter,
  • more than 4 kg - 1 milliliter,

Ten days before adult birds are vaccinated, pigeons must be dewormed with broad-spectrum drugs and treated with insectoacaricides.

Do not forget to shake the bottle well before opening it. Particular attention should be paid to sanitization and the quality of antiseptic and septic agents that you use. You can use both reusable and disposable syringes. If you prefer the first option, then they must be sterilized before use. Sterilize to thirty-minute boiling in distilled water. It is important that the needles are thin. The injection site should be treated with a 70% ethanol solution. But in his absence, you can use other antiseptics.

If you neglect these requirements, then the effectiveness of virosalm will decrease, because in this case it is impossible to guarantee full protection against diseases.

Do not forget to closely monitor the time intervals between the first and re-introduction of the vaccine. If you miss repeated vaccination, do the next one as soon as possible.

You can always use the services of a specialist. But if you decide to cope on your own, be sure to use personal protective equipment, as well as special clothing. It is good if there is a first-aid kit nearby in order to provide first aid at any time.

If the product comes into contact with the skin or mucous membrane of the eyes, immediately rinse them with plenty of running water. Wash your hands well with soap and water to finish the procedure. The erroneous and careless introduction of growth of the growth into the human body can have extremely negative consequences. Therefore, be sure to treat the injection site with a solution of food or alcohol. After that, be sure to use the services of doctors.

In the course of repeated studies, no side effects were found in the vaccine. Therefore, reviews of the drug are extremely positive. You have to keep a close eye on doses, but even in case of an overdose, birds will not get sick with salmonella and Newcastle disease.

There are some contraindications for the use of the drug, which must be taken into account:

  • It is forbidden to give injections to birds that look exhausted and exhausted, as well as if they have already been infected. After all, if the bird is sick, the introduction of the drug, which includes the microorganisms of the salmonella virus, can be fatal for it.
  • It is necessary to completely abandon the use of the vaccine at an air temperature that is not capable of guaranteeing a comfortable adaptation: below 10 ° C and above 30 ° C.
  • It is necessary to refrain from vaccination during the peak of molting birds.
  • It is forbidden to use the drug if you are already using any other drugs to improve immunity. In addition, it is forbidden to vaccinate a bird with any other drugs for two weeks after the last vaccination with virosalm.

One of the main advantages of using virosalm is that the drug does not affect the timing of the use of meat and eggs of vaccinated birds.

Strictly adhere to the drug storage instructions. The vaccine must be stored and transported in a dry place. The optimal storage temperature is 2-8 ° C. It is necessary to completely neutralize the direct sunlight on the vaccine. Virosalm must be stored in places that are inaccessible to children. The shelf life of the drug - 2 years from the date of manufacture. After the expiration of this period to use the tool is prohibited. Violation of the conditions of transportation and storage adversely affects the quality of the drug.

The remains of a vaccine that has not been used for eight hours can no longer be used. It is also forbidden to use the vaccine if the bottle is broken or there is no label on it. Pay attention to the consistency of the drug itself. If there are impurities, or changed color, then use the tool is no longer possible.

Vaccine characteristics

Often, many pigeon breeders use the Virosalm in order to maintain the pigeon’s immune system and reduce the chances of becoming infected not only with these diseases, but also with a number of others. The vaccine itself contains the necessary vitamins and trace elements that produce certain cells in the body that strengthen the immune system.

The drug highlights the main components that help fight against diseases: these are billions of microcells of microbial origin from the Salmonella typhimurium family, and most importantly, extraembryonic transudate small chicken embryos that are already infected with Newcastle virus.

It is like introducing an allergen into the body. The body begins to take it and integrate it into its DNA, as a result it turns out to build an “artificial” immunity to this or that allergen. It is the same with the disease: it is impossible to get sick with what is already in the body.

The color of the liquid is yellowish gray. If sediment is noticeable at the bottom of the jar, do not worry: this is normal for such a drug - you just need to shake the vaccine before the pigeon is injected, it is perfectly broken into a homogeneous mixture.

The drug is available only in glass jars. The package may have a different amount of vaccine: 2, 10, 20, and the largest package - 40 pieces. Each dose is securely packed with a polymer cap that does not allow air to pass through, but at the same time maintains the desired temperature inside the ampoule. From above the neck of the ampoule is covered with an aluminum cap.

What should be the testimony

Virosalm for pigeons instruction reads as follows:

  • a vaccine is prevention, but not a cure,
  • medication is provided for the prevention of any ornamental and wild birds against diseases such as salmonellosis and Newcastle disease.

Often, pigeons suffer from such diseases because of poor-quality food, dirty bedding and water. Also a large percentage of the fact that a bird can become infected from another carrier of the disease. This often happens on farms when domestic pigeons come into contact with wild birds. Those pigeons who are at risk need the vaccine:

  • pigeons from 2 to 20 days,
  • birds during a mass quarantine: if there were no preventive actions on the immune system immediately before the threat of infection, it is recommended that such pigeons be temporarily relocated to another room,
  • pigeons, which should later become parents: such a precautionary measure will be able to save future offspring from diseases,
  • It is especially recommended that veterinarians make a vaccine for those birds that should participate in exhibitions or will soon be put up for sale.

Who is not recommended to enter

If it is clear that the bird is weak, exhausted, it is recommended to postpone the vaccination, as there is a chance that the birds may not survive it. It is better to wait until the pigeon is stronger, and only after that do the injection. It is recommended to hang a pet around the neck of the ribbon in order to know who exactly needs to be prevented.

What is Virosalm?

Virosalm is used by most pigeon breeders to maintain the immunity of pigeons. The manufactured vaccine contains about a billion microbial cells of Salmonella typhimurium, as well as extraembryonic chicken embryo fluid infected with Newcastle virus.

The color of the suspension is yellow-gray. Vaccine is characterized by loose sediment, which is easily broken into a homogeneous suspension. Virosalm is sold in glass vials, the number of which can be 2, 10, 20, or 40 pieces per pack. Each ampoule is hermetically sealed with a polymer cap and an aluminum cap.

The drug Virosalm is shown to pigeons and other ornamental birds as a preventive measure, but not a cure, against such common illnesses as Newcastle disease and salmonellosis. These sores, analyzing the characteristics, are common in problem, private farms.

Vaccination is needed in the following categories:

  • Youngsters whose age reaches twenty days.
  • Pigeons in the period of universal quarantine. Provided there is no preventive work on immunity before the threat of infection. Such birds are placed in a temporary isolator.
  • Birds from the herd of parents a month before the date of the alleged lay. Such a measure strengthens the immunity of future chicks at the time of birth.
  • Pigeons, which are at the preparatory stage for participation in exhibitions or competitions.

When and how is it applied?

Virosalm is administered intramuscularly into the pectoral muscle, by double intake with a difference of 28-30 days. The dose for birds weighing up to four kilograms is 0.5 milliliter. Pigeons, the mass of which exceeds four kilos, enter one milliliter. Before opening the bottle must be shaken.

When using the drug, special attention is paid to the hygiene and quality of the antiseptic and septic agents used. Preference is given to disposable or reusable syringes with thin needles. If the choice falls on reusable syringes, they must be sterilized for half an hour. The injection area is disinfected with a solution of 70% ethanol.

Neglecting the established norms of the vaccination procedure leads to a significant decrease in the effectiveness of Virosalm. Such failures interfere with full protection from diseases. When using the drug, keep an eye on the time frame, avoiding the re-introduction of the vaccine to pigeons.

To produce treatment, you must invite a specialist. If this is not possible and you can cope on your own, then do not forget about the use of special clothes and personal protective equipment. If liquid accidentally spills onto your skin or eyes, immediately flush the affected area with plenty of water.

After the procedure, wash your hands thoroughly in warm water using copious amounts of soap. If Virosalm was mistakenly introduced into the human body, immediately wipe the trace from the injection with a solution of iodine or ethyl alcohol. Then go to the hospital.

General characteristics of the drug

The vaccine is a liquid, yellowish color with a structured suspension, which easily turns into a homogeneous mass with shaking. The composition includes bacterial Salmonella cells and fluids infected with Newcastle disease virus. Available in bottles of 2, 10, 20, 40 doses (1, 5, 10, 20 cm³, respectively), tightly closed with rubber grommets. The drug is considered usable for 2 years with proper storage. It is recommended to store the vaccine in a dark cool place at a temperature of + 2 ... + 8 ° С. Remains of unused funds after 8 hours must be disposed of.

Before you get rid of the remnants of unused printed vaccine, you should boil the product for half an hour. When disposing of this procedure is carried out in order to disinfect.

Indications and contraindications

The vaccine is designed to form a stable resistance of the body of the bird to salmonellosis and Newcastle disease. It is used exclusively for the purpose of prevention. The drug is intended for vaccination of birds: pigeons, ducks, geese, turkeys, parrots, guinea fowls, quails, ostriches, pheasants and some other species.

Indications for vaccination belong to the following categories of birds:

  1. Nestlings who have reached 3 weeks of age.
  2. Birds not vaccinated against salmonellosis and Newcastle disease during quarantine.
  3. Birds of productive age 4 weeks before the expected onset of egg-laying.
  4. Birds a month before participating in exhibitions, competitions or other places where there is a likelihood of contact with other infected birds.

It is forbidden to vaccinate weak, sick and infected pigeons. It is not recommended to combine vaccination with Virosalm with other immunomodulatory drugs. The molting period of pigeons is also a contraindication for the use of Virosalm.

Application and precautionary statements

Before using the vaccine, it is advisable to treat worms from pigeons. The preparation is stirred to obtain a homogeneous suspension and gently injected into the breast of a pigeon. 1 bird usually needs 1 dose (0.5 cm³). For the procedure, it is desirable to use disposable syringes. The injection site before the introduction of the vaccine should be disinfected with an antiseptic - it is more convenient to use a spray - or 70% alcohol solution.

The first time the pigeons are vaccinated at the age of 3 weeks, then after 1 month the procedure is repeated. Adult pigeons are vaccinated twice, every 10 months, with an interval of 1 month.

If possible, entrust vaccination of pigeons to a specialist!

In order to introduce the vaccine correctly, you need to take the pigeon in your left hand from the back, fixing the wing with your thumb. A needle of a syringe with an injection is inserted into the pectoral muscle about 3-5 mm at an acute angle to the bird's head (if the needle is inserted in the direction of the tail, the chest bone and liver can be damaged, which will lead to the death of the bird).

Using Virosalm, you need to follow the rules of precaution. All vaccination participants must wear special protective clothing. It is recommended to work in medical gloves. When a vaccine comes into contact with parts of the body or mucous membranes, they are washed in a large amount of pure water. If a vaccine was accidentally administered to a person, the injection site should be treated with an antiseptic and consult a doctor. If the product has been spilled, the site where the vaccination was performed should also be treated.

The components of the drug

Virosalm is an inactivated vaccine, which is used in the treatment of birds with the task of developing resistance of pigeons to salmonella and pseudo-brain.

Externally, it looks like a yellow-gray liquid-suspension, falling into a structured suspension, which dissolves with intensive shaking.

Among the components of the vaccine is virosalm for pigeons about a billion Salmonella microbes and fetal fluid from avian embryos affected by the Newcastle virus. The analogue of virosalm is the injection Vladivak la Sota.

The drug in industrial production is available in different doses: 2,10,20 and 40 cubic cm. It is delivered to the end user in glass. Virosalm vials are sealed with polymer caps with aluminum caps.

The instruction to the preparation indicates its validity for at least two years with the condition of its preservation in a cool unlit place, where the temperature is from 2 to 8 ° C Opened vials are disposed of after eight hours.

Pharmacology and indications for use

Virosalm can be prescribed for the development of immunity to decorative avian breeds, including:

  • ducks and geese,
  • ostrich and quail,
  • pigeons and parrots
  • turkeys and pheasants.

Vaccination with virosalm is carried out in farms and private households unfavorable for salmonellosis and Newcastle disease.

Vaccination with the help of virosalm is made:

  • after birth at the age of 20 days,
  • in the period of quarantine with the disease of individuals in the population,
  • until the laying of one month,
  • before the participation of pigeons in exhibitions, competitions, for the purpose of sale or exchange for a month.

As a result of the use of virosalm, pigeons develop resistant resistance to diseases. Vaccination is performed twice, with an interval of 4 weeks. The resistance of the organisms of birds appears after two weeks after the secondary vaccination with the medication. The efficacy of the vaccine lasts for 11 months.

  • for pigeons weighing not more than 4 kg a single dose of the drug is 0.5 ml.
  • for birds whose weight is more than 4 kg, the dosage of virosalm must be at least 1 ml.

Sterile syringes with fine needles are used for vaccination with virosalm. In the case of reusable instruments, they are resorted to sterilization by boiling for at least half an hour.

The site for the vaccine is treated with antiseptic solutions, which can be used as ethyl alcohol.

Before using the solution, shake the contents of the vial thoroughly to dissolve the natural sediment in the liquid.

Revaccination with virosalm is performed 10 months later, also twice, with an interval of one month between injections. 10 days prior to vaccination, it is recommended to carry out measures for deworming pigeons.

It should be borne in mind that in case of violation of the established procedure for vaccination, the effect of virosalm decreases.
